Billy Windell Knight, 82, passed away peacefully at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro, Georgia, on January 13, 2023 after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Billy was born in Tattnall County, Georgia to Otis and Elizabeth Knight on November 23, 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Glennville attending Tattnall County Schools. He served several years in the Georgia National Guard. Billy was employed with the Georgia Department of Transportation as an enforcement officer for 32 years. He was a lifelong farmer, mechanic and singer of Southern Gospel Music.
He married Linda R. Knight on April 13, 1962 and they were blessed with 3 children. As a singer, Billy sang with the End Time Singers for many years. He also sang with New Life Singers, which included his daughters, Carole Beasley and Connie Bowen and son-in-law, Keith Beasley. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a song leader and Sunday School teacher. He was a simple man who enjoyed spending time with his family and joking around with all he met.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Connie Bowen; brother, Wilbert Knight; sister, Margaret Swindell.
Billy is survived by his wife, Linda and children: Chris Knight and Carole Beasley (Keith); son-in-law: Timmy Bowen; four grandchildren: Abigail Bowen, Colton Bowen, Hannah Tillman (Dakota), Joshua Beasley; one great grandchild: Raelah Bowen; Sister, Nancy Griffin (Vernon) several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 16, 2023 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, January 16, 2023 at the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Wendell Knight, Eric Durrence, Murray Benefield, H.A. Stanfield, Bob Adams, Lambert Lightsey.
