Mr. Burton L. Sconyers, 84, of Metter passed away Monday morning, August 13, 2018 at Candler County Hospital under the care of his loving family and Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Mr. Sconyers was born on December 23, 1933 to Mr. Claude and Mrs. Eunice Rigdon Sconyers and lived in this area all his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran involved with the Korean Conflict. He was employed for many years with Excelsior EMC, was a commercial shrimper at Shellman Bluff for 15 years and was a hunting guide at Beaver Creek Plantation. He was of the Pentecostal/Baptist faith. He enjoyed playing football, attending and judging livestock shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Snipes Sconyers of Metter; a daughter Sherry Hargett (Ray) of Guyton; a son, Danny Sconyers of Metter; a sister, Lucille Davis of Hinesville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be on Wednesday evening, August 15, 2018 at the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday morning, August 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the Metter Chapel of Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes with Reverends Virgil Ray Hargett and Blake Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth "Pee Wee" Beasley, Tommy Hunt, Wes Douglas, Johhny Lanier, Kelly Mixon, Dobson Deal, Ronald Cardell, and Wayne Rivenbark.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Beaver Creek Hunting Guides, Zac Ollif, Jerry Webb, Ike Webb, Sammy Hendrix, JD Henry, Jaime Brown, Jake Daughtery, Charlie Hendrix, Jesse A. Durden, Lewis Beasley.
Kennedy-Brannen Funeral Homes, Metter Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
