Charles Hillis Purcell, affectionately known as Hillis, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center, at the age of 80. He was born on June 14, 1945, in Glennville, Georgia to Charles Laban and Thelma Driggers Purcell.
A proud graduate of Glennville High School, Hillis dedicated a significant portion of his life to the CSX Railroad, where he worked for an impressive 30 years. His career also included driving big trucks out of town, as well as operating and pulling log trucks and pole trucks, which reflected his well-rounded expertise in transportation and logistics.
Hillis was a man of many interests and passions. He enjoyed spending time in nature, whether it was hunting or rabbit hunting with his beloved beagles. Additionally, he had a penchant for farming, which allowed him to connect with the land and enjoy its bounties. Riding his motorcycle brought him joy and adventure, further highlighting his love for the open road.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Talmadge Purcell and a sister, Verdeen Brannen.

Daughters, Lynn Simmons of Ludowici, Georgia
Lisa Paden of Ohio
Brother, Richard Purcell (Beverly) of Savannah, Georgia
Grandchildren, Jordan Davis, John Davis, Waylon Simmons, Cameron Simmons, Wayne Simmons
Great Granddaughter, Paislee Simmons and Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held on July 30, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will be in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
