SMSGT Danny Thomas Groover, US Air Force (Ret.), 74, of Summerville, SC, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at MUSC. In Charleston S.C.
Danny was born on February 26, 1946, in Atlanta, GA, son of Ernestine Wetherington Groover of Glennville, GA, and the late Cecil Groover. After high school, Danny joined the Air Force, rising to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Danny loved being in the military, and his 25 years of service spanned conflicts including the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Shield/Storm. After retiring from the Air Force, Danny drove a truck for many years until he retired for good. In his later years, Danny worked with The Shriners to raise money for sick and injured children. Through his life, Danny was sustained by coffee, and he had two green thumbs. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing, he entertained his friends with karaoke, and he loved every dog he met.
Danny is survived by three children: Danielle Groover (Greg) of Longmont, CO, Lesley Coaxum (Mario) of Woodbridge, VA, and Andy Byrge (Pauline) of Azle, TX; three grandchildren: Katelyn, Jacob, and Mason; Mother; Ernestine Wetherington Groover of Glennville, GA, two siblings: Leslie Groover (Vicki) of Glennville, GA, and Michael A. Groover (Marie) of Glennville, GA. In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his sister, Linda Groover Griffin.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 with services to follow at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 26, 2020 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, GA.
