Donnie Martin Stubbs, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Georgia at the age of 79. Born on February 17, 1947, in Tattnall County, Georgia to Martin Foy and Myrtice Odom Stubbs, Donnie’s life was marked by a deep commitment to family and faith.
A 1965 graduate of Glennville High School, Donnie built a career as an engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation where he was known as the dirt dauber. His professional life was distinguished by dedication and a strong work ethic. Beyond his career, he was well known for umpiring softball games, reflecting his love of sports and community engagement.
Donnie’s passions extended beyond his work. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an enthusiastic follower of sports, especially girls' college softball and NASCAR. He took immense joy in supporting his grandchildren, always proud to cheer them on in their activities. A lifelong member of Birdford Baptist Church, Donnie served faithfully in numerous roles, including treasurer and as overseer of the cemetery committee, demonstrating his steadfast faith and willingness to serve wherever needed. Additionally, he was an active member of the Shady Hammock Hunting Club and found fellowship and leisure in the coffee club at Central Pharmacy.
Known for his generous spirit, great sense of humor, and readiness to do anything for others, Donnie’s character touched many lives. He valued his family above all else, proudest of the love he nurtured within his home and the faith that grounded him throughout his life.
Donnie is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruth Blocker, brothers, Darwin Stubbs and Darrell Stubbs, daughter Carmen Stubbs Smiley, grandchildren, Christopher Lane Stubbs and Angel Grace Smiley.
He is survived by:
Wife of 59 years, Jane Jernigan Stubbs of Glennville, Georgia
Daughter, Tracy Stubbs Foster (Randy) of Glennville, Georgia
Grandchildren, James Dixon, Wesley Dixon, Dustin Smiley, Cassidy Smiley
Great Grandchildren, Jaelyn and Vivianne Dixon
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm, Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 19, 2026 at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Birdford Baptist Church Cemetery.
