Gary Anderson

October 31, 1953 — January 16, 2026

Glennville

Gary Eugene Anderson was born on October 31, 1953, in Miami, Florida, and passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026.

Gary married the love of his life, Carol Anderson, on January 29, 1974. Together they built a life grounded in family and loyalty, spanning decades of commitment and love.

Gary was a devoted father to his three children: Ernest Smith (Katrina), Misty Hill (James), and John Anderson (Cristen).

If you knew Gary, you knew he never met a stranger. He loved telling jokes, laughed easily, enjoyed magic tricks, and took pride in his marksmanship. He was an avid fisherman who loved sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee, telling stories to anyone who would listen — and nothing beat a good game of pool with his sons. Above all, his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John Anderson and Betty Stanfield Wilds.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Anderson; his children and their families; his brother, Johnny Anderson of Gautier, MS; his sister, Vickie Wilds of Alston, GA; Carol Peebles of Reidsville, GA; and his first cousin, Charlotte Stanfield Brown, who was like a sister; along with extended family members and friends.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Little Rock Baptist Church. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will be held in Glennville City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers: Nicholas Smith, Aaron Smith, Eric Hesters, Tracy Arnold, Blair Jones, and Neal Long.

Honorary pallbearers: Grandsons: Nicholas Smith, Aaron Smith, Garrett Hill, and Jesse Wixted. Granddaughters: Macey Hill, Ashley Hill, Amber Hesters, Emily Chalkley, Angel Abshire, Willow Anderson, and Cypress Anderson

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist Carol Anderson with expenses during this transition.

Gary didn’t need many words to make an impact — even though he used plenty of them. Steady and kind, quick to smile and slow to anger, he will be remembered in laughter shared, porch and fishing stories, favorite hats, and the family legacy he leaves behind.
