Harley Eugene "Gene" Dasher, 78, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Ogeechee Area Hospice inpatient center in Statesboro. He was born August 8, 1939 in Glennville, Georgia to John Harley and Lorraine Barrow Dasher and lived in Glennville all of his life. He was a 1957 Graduate of Glennville High School and a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. The highlight of his military career was a 6 month Mediterranean tour which took him to Greece, Spain, Turkey and France and his tour ended in Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban conflict. He stated his career in the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in 1969 and retired as Postmaster of the Glennville Post Office in 1996. He was a 32nd degree Mason, served as Lion Club officer and also a member of the Glennville Jaycees. He was an entrepreneur in his early years, having owned and operated the Ever Ready Service Station and Ever Ready Food Mart. He was an avid golf player, his golfing career highlight was the achievement of 2 holes-in-one in a one week period. He loved vegetable gardening, nature, humming birds and butterflies. He was the neighborhood Mayor of Fairway Estates and he managed all of this from the screened porch in his back yard. He was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, Friendship Sunday School Class and a RA leader and supported the bus ministry for many years.

Teresa Anderson (Andy) of Brunswick, GA
Cheryl Strickland of Jesup, GA
Grandchildren, Thomas Edward Tokos III, Maggie Elizabeth Dasher, several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 pm, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with David Smith, Ronnie Barnhill and Rev. Mike Howard officiating. Burial will be in Loves Chapel Church Cemetery with military honors.
