John Howard Cox

Jul 25, 1941 — Aug 19, 2026

Hinesville

John Howard Cox, beloved son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, entered his Heavenly home on August 19, 2026, at his residence under the care of Georgia Hospice Care and surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 25, 1941, in Reidsville, Georgia, to Clifford and Mytrle Boyette Cox and lived in Tattnall and Liberty County most of his life.

From his earliest days, John embraced life with an open spirit and genuine warmth. A proud graduate of Glennville High School, Class of 1959, he carried the friendships, values, and memories from those days with him always. Soon after, John answered the call to serve, signed up and was ready to dedicate himself to his country just shy of his 18th birthday, as a proud member of the United States Air Force serving during Vietnam.

John built a fulfilling career with Georgia Power Company before his well-earned retirement. His hard work and dedication were evident in every task he undertook, but it was the relationships he fostered—among coworkers, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him—that marked the true measure of his time on earth.

Outside of work, John was an avid outdoorsman. He found joy in hunting and fishing, often drawn to the solace and beauty of nature. The mountains were a particular sanctuary for he and his beloved wife, a place where memories were made and peace was found. Whether he was building something with his hands or simply sharing a story, his enthusiasm for life and the outdoors was infectious.

Family and faith stood at the very heart of John’s proudest accomplishments, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved. He touched every part of their lives with his loving and caring nature, guiding and supporting as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. The laughter he brought, thanks to his great sense of humor—even in his final days—will always echo in their hearts. His was a spirit marked by unfailing kindness: generous, thoughtful, always putting others ahead of himself.

John leaves behind the indelible legacy of a life lived with purpose, devotion to his family and unwavering faith in God.

John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Maxine Lewis Cox, sister, Marie Cox Folker and a granddaughter, Kennedy Cox.
