Joseph Davis

Joseph "Joe" Porter Davis, 87 passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Oxley Park Health and Rehab under the care of Affinis Hospice. Joe was born December 31, 1930 in Greensboro, Georgia, Greene County, to Rev. C.W. and Maude Davis. He was a 1948 graduate of Elberton High School, and after high school graduation, Joe played football and baseball for two years at South Georgia College. He attended the University of Florida where he played defensive end in their football program. Before and after entering the service, Joe also played professional baseball for the Cincinnati Baseball Organization, for Palatka in the Florida State League and for Douglas in the Georgia State League. He was in United States Army from 1952- 1954 and in 1955 he graduated from the University of Florida. Joe coached football at South Georgia College and taught algebra. In 1956 he went to Glennville High School and taught P.E. and math and coached football and baseball. It wasn't until 1963 that Joe became a self-employed surveyor. He is preceded in death by, his parents, and brothers, Van Davis and Clarence "Pete" Davis (Alice).

Sister, Ann Gunter (Fred) of Augusta
Loving Companion, Patricia Harris of Collins
Extended Family, Sonia Smith (Jeff) and Tara Roberts
Sister-in-law, Sara Davis of Douglas
Several other relatives also survive.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, Friday, April 13, 2018 at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm at the chapel of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. David Hibberts and Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial will be in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
