Lawrence Rexford Knickerbocker, 81, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia, Georgia. Born on March 19, 1945, in Binghamton, New York, he lived a life marked by kindness and never meeting a stranger.
Lawrence served honorably in the United States Army, he brought his leadership and discipline to IBM, where he worked as a distribution manager. His professional journey was characterized by dedication and a steadfast commitment to excellence.
In 1980, Lawrence relocated from New York and landing in Tucson, Arizona. After many years there, he moved to Glennville, Georgia, in 2017, where he spent his final years surrounded by quiet comfort and the warmth of his family.
Outside of his career, Lawrence was a man of varied interests and passions. He enjoyed the thrill of NASCAR, the freedom of riding motorcycles, and the persistent challenge of golf. These hobbies brought color and joy to his life, reflecting his dynamic spirit and zest for life.
Above all, Lawrence treasured his family and cherished his role as “Poppy,” a title he held with pride and affection. This role was his proudest accomplishment, illustrating a deep capacity for love, care, and connection.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Loren Jay and Madolyn Louise Knickerbocker, siblings and his beloved wife, Grace Elizabeth Knickerbocker.
He is survived by:
Children, Brent D. Brooks of Tucson, Arizona
Kimberly L. Musgrove of Glennville, Georgia
Grandchildren, Ashleigh, Allie, Braxton, Brandon, Trish, Daniel, Ryan, Megan, Matthew, Sarah, Maleri
Eleven great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
In honoring Lawrence's wishes there will be no services.
