Margot Doris Schlosser Burkhalter, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Coastal Manor Nursing Home in Ludowici, Georgia under the care of Your Family Hospice. She was born to Emil Schlosser and Gerda Schlosser Leimer in Germany on July 23, 1943. Margot grew up in a small town in rural Germany where she attended and graduated high school. She loved her home country of Germany and would often recall playing in the fields and sleighing down the hills in the winter with her friends.
Margot truly enjoyed traveling as a military wife and had the opportunity to see the world. In addition to having traveled all over the world, she had the pleasure of having lived in Kansas, Colorado until retiring to Glennville, Georgia. Margot had a talkative and outgoing personality and made friends wherever she went. Even though English was not her first language, she was able to quickly learn and speak it fluently. However, her German accent would stay with her throughout her lifetime. Even though she lived so far away from her own family in Germany, she was quickly adopted into her friends' family, that treated her as their own.
Margot met Derrell Burkhalter while he was stationed in Germany, and they were married in 1964. They were blessed with three beautiful children, Linda, Terry and John. Each of them were the apple of her eye and she was immensely proud of them.
For many years Margot was a homemaker while her husband served in the military but after moving to Glennville upon his retirement in 1980, she decided to enter the work force. She worked at the local sewing factory, formerly, Ithaca, for many years where she made lifelong friends. Margot was also employed for over a decade with the Tattnall County Board of Education at the Glennville Middle School, where she was known by her colleagues as a friendly yet fiery lady that could carry on a conversation with anyone. She enjoyed talking about any subject or matter of life just as long as she was talking. After her retirement from the school system, she enjoyed spending her leisurely time with her miniature chihuahua companion, Peanut and visiting with her neighbors down the lane.
Her favorite pastime was shopping, and she was such a natural at it! Most weekends you could find her with her daughter Linda and granddaughter Ashley over a span of Georgia, Florida or South Carolina shopping for clothes, shoes, purses and anything in between. Margot truly enjoyed spending time with her family.
Margot is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Derrell Burkhalter, her beloved son, John Burkhalter and her granddaughter, Kristie Batten.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Dansby (Daren) and Terry Batten Moger, four grandchildren, Ashley Dansby, Dylan Dansby (Chelsey), Jodi Talarino (Phillip), and C.J. Batten, nine great grandchildren, Adyline, Nathan, Brooke, Blake, Kaden, Nathaniel, Kaleem, Kira, Kian and her sisters, Claudia, Birgitte, Marita, along with their families in Germany.
The family would like the extend a special thank you to the employees and staff of Costal Manor Nursing Home and Your Family Hospice for their exceptional care and helping her to live the best life possible after her Alzheimer's diagnosis.
