Maria Isabel Huggins Hulbert, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on February 13, 1929, in the country of Panama to Gerald and Ivy DaCosta Huggins, Maria’s long life was a testament to compassion, resilience, and quiet devotion.
Maria began her remarkable journey in Panama, where her caring spirit led her into nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she provided dedicated care both in her homeland and later in Truckee, California.
Outside of her career, Maria embraced the joys and simple pleasures of life. She was known for her delight in playing the lottery, a pastime that brought smiles and moments of anticipation. Her kitchen was often filled with inviting aromas, as she lovingly prepared meals—a gesture that extended her nurturing nature to friends and family alike. Central to Maria’s life was her enduring faith and involvement with St Jude Catholic Church, where she found fellowship and comfort throughout the years.
Maria is survived by her loving niece and nephews, Elizabeth J. Magalei (Lei) of Statesboro, Georgia, Charles W. White Jr. (Kristy) of Andalusia, Alabama and David White (Shawnda) of Glennville, Georgia. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.
