Marklyn Ann Durrence, 88, passed away Friday, August 29, 2025, at Community Hospice in Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville. The Tattnall County native lived in Mendes for many years, before moving with family to Jacksonville over 65 years ago. Marklyn was born August 30, 1936, to Marcus Lee and Mary Ann Ruth Purvis Durrence and was a 1954 graduate of Glennville High School. She spent her adult years as a homemaker and caregiver, taking care of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She also took care of her mother and sister for many years. Marklyn was a former member of Harmony Church and a member of Englwood Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, McCoy Durrence, daughter Patty Parks, son, Phil Durrence, sister Claudette, and brothers Marquette and Durwood. She is survived by one daughter Candy Derbecker (Alan), a son-in-law, Dennis Parks, grandchildren, Derek Parks (Cynthia), Meagan Martinez (Edgar), Jasen Durrence, Kevin Durrence, great-grandchildren Kendall, Declan, Amelia, Alana, and Kellan.
Listening to her sing while washing dishes or rocking us to sleep is how most of us learned those traditional gospel songs. Every day and in every challenge, she would remind us “Be still, and know that I am God, I am with you” Psalm 46:10.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 am at Brannen Family Funeral Services, 206 N. Veterans Blvd. Glennville, GA 30427 followed by a Graveside Funeral Service at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Harmony Church Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
