Mrs. Melba Mccoy

March 20, 1937 — April 25, 2021

Melba Monroe Mccoy, 84, of the Aline Community passed away early Sunday morning, April 25, 2021, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice and with her husband, daughter, and son-in-law at her bedside. She resided in Savannah, Georgia for more than 40 years before returning to Candler County 22 years ago. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church for 23 years before moving her membership to First Baptist Church in Metter in 2006. She loved the Lord and her family; her greatest joy was cooking and caring for her husband of 67 years, her children, nieces, nephews, neighborhood kids, church family and anyone else she thought needed a helping hand. Everyone always enjoyed receiving her pound cake and it was always requested at any gathering. She had a heart for service, as a young adult she worked at a family-owned restaurant on Tybee Island. She loved cooking and waiting on customers, after the restaurant was sold, she worked 19 years for the Winn Dixie Store Chain. Eventually making her career as a Hair Stylist and Salon owner of “A Plaza Hairdresser” in Savannah Georgia for the next 20 years. She loved her clients and as they became older, she would pick them up at home bring them to her salon and take them back home again. She was known to take them to Doctor’s appointment or meet any need she knew they had including being the one to style their hair at their death, it was the last thing she said she could do for them. Mema/Aunt Nettie, as she was known, will always be remembered as the foundation of her family, she loved everyone and will be deeply missed. Preceding her in death are her parents Marshall and Phinas Collins Monroe; brothers, Thomas and James (Giggie) Monroe; nephews, Mike and Keith Monroe.

Surviving her is the love of her life for 67 years, Gaylord L. McCoy Jr. who cared for her unconditionally never leaving her side; daughter, Marsha M. Hernandez (Danny) of Cobbtown, Ga; granddaughters, April Stevens (James) of Richmond Hill, Ga and Danielle Eckhart (Dustin) of Pooler Ga; great grandchildren Maison, Dane, Dillon, Addison, Daniel and newest addition Asher; brothers, William Monroe of Metter Ga, Roy Monroe of Jacksonville Fl, Bernice Monroe (Betty) of Metter Ga; sister, Lois Canaday of Greenville, SC and many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.
