Peyton Raleigh Bacon Jr, 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Raleigh was born on September 24, 1942, in Hinesville, GA to Peyton Raleigh Bacon and Olive Gooden Bacon, the fourth of 5 children: Mary Ogle (Buddy), William (Bill) Bacon (Marjorie), Shirley Spencer (Bill), and Gregg Bacon (Mable). He was a graduate of Jenkins High School and a student at Armstrong College.
In 1961, Raleigh married his high school sweetheart, Gail Jenkins. Raleigh served in the Army and was stationed in Germany in 1966. Several months into retirement he returned to work for his good friend, Jimmy Burnsed, at Bryan Bank & Trust. Raleigh became active in the Richmond Hill community, was a member of the Exchange Club and attended the Band of Brothers Bible study. Raleigh and Gail were members at Bull Street Baptist Church and enjoyed serving meals on Wednesday nights with their Sunday School class. He was currently a member of Community Bible Church in Savannah.
In addition to his wife, Gail, Raleigh leaves behind his son, Peyton R. Bacon III (Trey) (Shannon), grandchildren Sydney Pesch (Will) and Andrew Bacon of Savannah, GA; brother, Gregg Bacon (Mable) of Land O’ Lakes, FL and many nieces and nephews.
