Pat Reynolds Patterson, aged 89, passed peacefully on May 10, 2026, at his home in Richmond Hill, GA. Pat was born to L.I. “Shorty” Patterson and Fannie Kate Baxter Patterson on April 25, 1937, in Glennville, GA, where he lived for the majority of his life. A devoted husband, loving father, and cherished Papa, he lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. Guided by his deep devotion to the Lord, he touched countless lives with his servant’s heart, his gentle spirit, his wonderful sense of humor, and his deep compassion for others.
A committed member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Pat served faithfully as a deacon and church clerk for many years. He was a graduate of Glennville High School, Class of 1955, and a graduate of Georgia State University. Pat retired from the Department of Defense in 1992 after a long career as a public servant, having worked at Fort Stewart as well as in Germany and The Netherlands. As a young man, he also served in the National Guard.
Pat is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Lilla Durden Patterson, and daughters Paige (Jim) Patterson Poland, of Tuscaloosa, AL, Penny (Jeff) Patterson Gregory of Richmond Hill, GA, and Leah (Dave) Patterson Ballance of Alpharetta, GA; sister Novadean Patterson Dreggors formerly of Glennville, GA and presently of Summerville, SC; brother-in-law Rudy Durden of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law Sylvia Durden of Swainsboro, GA; grandchildren Katie Poland, Mattie Poland, Cale Poland, Ben Poland, Josh (Gabby) Gregory, Daniel Gregory, Rachel Gregory, Patrick Ballance, and Nicholas Ballance; special great-nephew Joey Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene Patterson, sister Marie Patterson Jones Johnson, sister-in-law Mary Ewing Durden, and brothers-in-law William Dreggors, George Jones, Claude Johnson and Mickey Durden. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11 am. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 am; burial in the church cemetery will follow the Celebration of Life service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Beards Creek Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 664, Glennville, GA 30427.
