Sarah Durrence

Sarah Elizabeth Durrence, 82, passed away Sunday, June 9, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia. She was born June 28, 1936 in Hogansville, Georgia. At age eighteen, she married the love of her life, Barney McCoy (B.M.) Durrence Jr. While raising five children, the couple worked hard on their Mendes farm growing tobacco and raising chickens. Sarah loved family gatherings, cooking, and reading stories to her grandchildren. All her family called her "Granny," a name which she was proud to be called. She was a faithful member of the Harmony United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School to youth for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney McCoy Durrence Jr; her parents, Mattie Lou Howard and Dennis Burch; sons in law, Danny Thomas and Allen Randall; and great granddaughter, Peyton Randall.
Survivors include:
Daughters, Son, and sons-in-law: Valarie Randall of Claxton, Georgia; Elizabeth "Libba" Thomas of Glennville, Georgia; Barney Durrence III of Glennville, Georgia; Velvet Stanfield (Joey) of Glennville, Georgia; and Phyllis Smith (David) of Glennville, Georgia.
Precious Grandchildren: Al (Jeanie) Randall, Foy (Betsy) Randall, Allie (Jon) Crockett, Drew (Lindsay) Thomas, Sara (Wes) Meadows, Joseph (Katie) Stanfield, Maylon Stanfield, Hunter Smith, Keaton Smith.
Precious Great grandchildren: Chancellor Randall; Percy and Harper Randall; Emmalyn, Drake, and Eva Crockett; Wilkes, Jack, and Eli Thomas; Mason Meadows; Emery Stanfield
Faithful caregiver: Tearesa Wilcox Alston
Pallbearers will be the grandsons Al Randall, Foy Randall, Drew Thomas, Joseph Stanfield, Maylon Stanfield, Hunter Smith, and Keaton Smith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 5:00 at Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:00 at Harmony United Methodist Church with Reverend Ramon Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow at the Harmony Methodist Church cemetery.
