Shirley Johnson Porter Driggers

Shirley Johnson Porter Driggers, passed away on September 9, 2025, at the age of 83 surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. Born on August 22, 1942, in Ludowici, Georgia, to Harry Lee and Dollie Kate Purcell Johnson, Shirley’s life was a tapestry woven from the threads of love, family, and resilience.

Best known for her love of all things beautiful, she was enamored with dazzling jewelry, fancy clothes, and stylish shoes (whether she could wear them or not)!  Yet her radiant smile was far more dazzling than any of those things; it could light any room! Shirley dedicated her life to nurturing those around her. As the wife of a carnival professional, she played a pivotal role in running a carnival cook house, sharing not only food but also joy and laughter with those who visited. Her talents extended beyond this endeavor, as she raised three children and opened her heart as a mother figure to many. She embodied the spirit of unconditional love, affectionately known as Mama, Granna, Nanny, and Mama Shirley making a significant impact in the lives of her family members and the numerous friends who considered her their own.

Shirley loved her family deeply. Especially in recent years, her passion to be with those nearest her, whether family or those she counted as family, created a strong bond among her and the many who loved her who now cherish the memories she created with them.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Leroy Johnson, Thurmon Johnson, Laverne Parker, Frances Anderson, and Darvin Johnson; husbands, Bill Porter and Randall Driggers; daughter, Joan Kicklighter and son, Logan Porter.

She is survived by:

Daughter-in-law, Miriam Porter of Glennville, Georgia

Sister-in-law, Debbie Morey of Glennville, Georgia and Maxine Morey of Miami, Fla

Grandchildren, Paige Turner, Elizabeth Kennedy (Hunter), Liam Porter, Joey Folker, Mika Veal, Galaxy Morey, Alex Morey

Great Grandchildren, Morgan Turner, Aiden Turner, River Folker, Mazzy Folker, Ryan Veal, Amber Veal, Riley Veal, Katyonna Jones, Christian Rodriguez, Jordan Morey

Great-Great Grandchildren, Paisley Pierce, Waylon Veal, Eliza Peko

Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Pigott Branch Church Cemetery.
