Walter Clifton Waters, 71, of Glennville, passed on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA after experiencing a medical emergency.
Cliff was born to the late Warren and Clara Waters, December 3, 1952, in Lakeland, Florida. He graduated from Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Florida in 1970. After moving to Glennville soon after in the early 1970’s, he went to work at the Red & White grocery store and then served in the National Guard Active Guard Reserves, working at Fort Stewart for 23 years, followed by a career in trucking with McKenzie Tank Lines for 10 years and Claxton Poultry for 5 years.
He married Ann Watson Waters on January 10, 1987, and he considered the births of his two oldest children, Bryan and Michelle, and adoptions of his two youngest, Nicholas and Joseph, his proudest moments in life.
Cliff was an active member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, where he served and attended for more than 4 decades. He was a member of the Lunch Bunch and played on the church softball team for years.
Cliff enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially for fishing and camping trips. He enjoyed many fishing trips with his sons and brother to Crescent Lake in Palatka, Florida. It was one of his favorite places and he was never more at peace than when he was fishing and enjoying nature all around him. He was an avid Florida Gators fan and enjoyed rooting for his favorite athletes in NASCAR and wrestling also.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren Garrett Waters and Clara Bell Morrison Waters. Cliff is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann Watson Waters; four children: Bryan Waters (Jennifer), of Statesboro; Michelle Wise (Matthew), of Pembroke; Nicholas Waters (Morgan), of Athens; and Joseph Waters (Haley Anna), of Patterson; 7 grandchildren: Luke and Chase Waters, of Statesboro; Hunter, Hollee, Sunny, and Stella Wise, of Pembroke; and Fletcher Waters, of Athens; and 2 great grandchildren: Paisley and Walker Wise, of Brooklet. He is also survived by one brother, Dennis Waters (Regina), of Glennville, a niece and a nephew: Kristen Rogers (Travis), of Statesboro, and Garrett Waters, of Glennville; and a great niece and nephew: Cade and Kinsey Rogers, of Statesboro.
Visitation will take place from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Brannen Family Funeral Services, with a service to immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Brannen Family Funeral Services Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. Steve Miller and Rev. Michael Sapp. A private interment ceremony for immediate family will follow later in the week at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Luke Waters, Chase Waters, Gary Ray, Garrett Waters, Niles Peden, and Travis Rogers are recognized as honorary pallbearers.
